Another man sentenced in Navarre shooting

NAVARRE, SANTA ROSA. Cody James Gomez’s conviction comes from an occurrence on March 23, 2017, when he and co-litigant Jonalbert Vidal went to the home of William Johnson in Navarre to purchase marijuana.

Proof from a cellphone related with Gomez indicated he wanted to burglarize Johnson. When they touched base at Johnson’s home, Gomez and Vidal requested that he gauge the weed. Vidal at that point shot Johnson once in the face, and he and Gomez fled without the medications, the State Attorney’s Office said.

Johnson told examiners following the shooting that Gomez had accompanied his companion to purchase drugs. Gomez and Vidal were gotten in Okaloosa County on two days after the fact, the public statement said.

Vidal argued no contest to endeavored second-degree murder with a gun and endeavored armed robbery with a gun and was condemned to 25 years in jail.

Gomez was sentenced for being the key to endeavored second-degree murder with a gun and vital to endeavored equipped theft with a gun. He faces as long as 30 years in jail on the endeavored homicide allegation and as long as 15 years in jail on the endeavored burglary accusation, the discharge said.
